Be the change you wish to see in the world

-Gandhi

"No matter how much I taught or how much I served, I could never give more than I received. The Ugandan people have given me more than I can express. They are beautiful in every way. Their strength astounds me and their spirit inspires me. When I came they called me their hero, when I left they were mine."

- Ashley Rogers, Uganda 2008

El Salvador

The HELP International program in El Salvador began in 2000 and is our longest running program. While working with HELP International in El Salvador, volunteers live in the country's capital San Salvador. Most of the volunteer work in El Salvador is centered on fighting urban poverty. Volunteers in El Salvador have been involved in projects ranging from orphanage work, serving in hospitals, teaching square-foot gardening, rebuilding homes in rural villages, holding business seminars, and teaching English to college-aged students. While Spanish fluency is preferred, volunteers do not have to speak Spanish to volunteer in El Salvador.

Country Description: El Salvador is located on the west coast of Central America, with a total area of 8,123 square miles, which is about the size of Massachusetts. El Salvador is known for its beautiful beaches, colonial structures and ruins as well as its mountainous landscapes. The majority of Salvadorians are Roman Catholic, and many local holidays are dedicated to celebrating saints. Spanish is the official language of El Salvador. Most of the country is economically supported by agriculture, with coffee as the main crop. The people of El Salvador are its best resource. They are direct, friendly and usually willing to chat or help you out if you are lost.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

- Margaret Mead

Donate online through Network for Good:

Please understand that HELP International is not affiliated with the Network for Good. Network for Good is a charity designed to help and support small nonprofit organizations with online collections. We believe their service is very valuable to us, however you should know that they will retain 3% of your total donation to help cover the expense of credit card transactions. We find that for small and medium sized transactions this is very reasonable. Hence, if you are making a $1,000 donation, HELP International will only receive $970. The tax receipt that we send you will only cover the net donation that we receive. By printing a receipt from Network for Good, you may, however, deduct 100% of your donation from your personal taxes. If you are making a large contribution to the organization, we encourage you to contact the office or mail us a personal/company check to avoid any processing fees. This fee applies to phone-in credit card transactions as well.

Network for Good will allow you to make a donation to us on behalf of a volunteer or to specific projects. If you are donating to a specific project, please indicate that project or country in the "Designation" box. If you are making a contribution to help one of our volunteers, please indicate the name of the volunteer in the "Dedication" box.

After clicking on the Network for Good link below, you will be taken to the Network for Good website, a secure connection.
